What is a retreat?

Retreats offer the opportunity to rest, restore and rejuvenate. This is accomplished by stepping away from your busy life with its stresses and long lists for a short period of time. Retreats are usually contemplative; they are conducted using a series of brief talks or teachings followed by a time to share with others as well as specific time devoted to your personal reflection and meditation.

Guided meditations and exercises can assist you with reflecting on the subject presented. Sometimes, but not always, there are periods of silence varying in duration.

Often there is a spiritual component to a retreat as ‘meaning-of-life’ kinds of issues are examined. If you believe that humans are spiritual beings, then it stands to reason that self-examination will have a spiritual dimension to it.


Take a day and make some space to consider, reflect, pray and contemplate.
